CLARA MARIE GOTTHARDT
Professor Gayden Darnell
Meet Your Professor
What should I do in order to be most successful in your class this semester?
Coach Darnell told me that all I needed to do was to come to class every week, work well in my small group, and complete my homework online on time each week. So in reflection I feel like my success in this class is something that I can easily achieve, if I stay on top of my assignments and come to class. In doing this there is no reason that I should not succeed this semester.
How should I shape my lifestyle to become healthier outside of the classroom?
In Coach Darnell’s KINE class she requires us to run once a week and learn about how being healthy and fit will affect our health, as we get older. I asked her in our meeting how she would suggest I budget my time in order to get everything that I need to get done before the day that it is due, and work out at the same time. I was intrigued to learn that she also suggest a time log like we have done in my business class before, she said that balancing your time helps you to make sure that you aren’t just wasting all of your time and energy doing nothing.
What can I do on my own to push myself to run outside of class?
I have been struggling with making time to workout since I came up to college this year, I love being active and I feel much better when I am. So I asked her if she had any advice that she could give me concerning how to hold myself accountable for this goal. She suggested that I find someone to run with me, so that we can be accountable for each other and push each other while working out. Also she mentioned to set aside a specific time that works best for me and just do it. A 20-minute jog is not going to throw off my whole schedule, if anything it will help me to be more focused on my work when I finish.
Overall I learned lots of things from getting to know my professor, it helped me to realize that staying healthy in college is not impossible and it is something that I can control if I put the effort in. I also learned that in my KINE class the only thing that she is looking for in her students is effort; she wants me to strive to do my very best and to gain health knowledge as I go along through the course. In the end I am very happy that I took the time to meet with my professor and get her opinion on how I can be a better version of myself not only in the classroom but in life as well.
